Racing with Truro Canoe Club
Truro Canoe Racing Club takes part in both marathon and sprint racing, welcoming paddlers of all ages and abilities to get involved. Racing is a core part of the club, but it’s always optional. Some members race regularly, others take part occasionally, and many enjoy supporting events in different ways. However you choose to be involved, you’ll find a friendly, encouraging atmosphere both on and off the water.
A key part of our racing calendar is the South West Hasler Marathon Series. This regional series is made up of races held across the South West, with paddlers competing in ability-based divisions. This makes Hasler racing ideal for beginners, as well as those looking to progress at their own pace. Points earned during the South West series can lead to qualification for the Hasler Finals, a national event that brings together clubs and paddlers from across the UK. For some members this is a long-term goal, while for others the local series is simply a great way to enjoy racing, travel with the club and be part of the wider paddling community.
One of the highlights of racing is the chance to paddle on beautiful rivers and waterways, often in stunning locations across Cornwall, Devon and beyond. Race days are as much about the scenery, shared journeys and post-paddle chats as they are about competition. Members race in kayaks and canoes, with coaching and support available to help you build confidence, develop skills and enjoy the experience, whether it’s your first race or your fiftieth.
New to racing or kayaking altogether? You don’t need prior experience to get started. We’ll support you through your first sessions, help you understand how racing works, and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. If you’re curious, come along to an induction or training session, we’d love to welcome you!
